Terrorism

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a Government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” (28 CFR, Section 0.85).

Terrorism has become a worldwide problem that cannot be ignored. Prime targets include government buildings, schools, sports, entertainment venues, as well as many public areas and structures where large numbers of people work or live.

Groups who promote this type of violence are committed to inflicting as much pain and suffering as possible. As a result of their actions, there are countless casualties every year. Many serious and life threatening injuries are caused by flying glass blown inside or outside of a building structure; anyone located within the blast area would be in danger.

With no logical end in site to these heinous crimes, it has become necessary to find ways to minimize the threat of potential damage the best we can. Having protective security film installed on a building is one way to help protect people and pets in the event of a bomb blast. When a bomb blast occurs, the anchoring system not only provides a stronger hold to the entire glazing system, but the security film will act as a net holding the broken shards together.

Johnson Window Films’ Trident security films are recommended for glass hazard mitigation against terrorist bomb blast occurrences and will provide protection when used in conjunction with an anchoring system. These films offer increased protection while still maintaining optical clarity. The selection of film often depends on the buildings’ proximity to a potential bomb blast danger area. Security film, along with a retention system, is often both necessary and recommended by experts in the industry. Consult a Johnson Window Films professional installer to have a custom analysis done on your property.

Industrial Accidents

Industrial explosions continue to be a hazardous threat to people in the work place despite the implementation and use of modern safety techniques, equipment, and training in many facilities around the world. Flying glass is the number one cause of injury when a bomb blast occurs outside a dwelling. People located within striking distance inside or outside of a building or home are unprotected when a bomb blast occurs. The magnitude of the force can blow the windows out of their frame and propel shattered pieces of broken shards at deadly speeds of over 100 mph cutting through anything in their path. Many senseless injuries and deaths can be prevented when security level window film is professionally installed.

Testing Notes

Note: Johnson Window Films’ security film line has met rigorous government certification requirements by passing national and international explosion resistance standards set forth by the GSA and ISO. Johnson Window Films’ Trident security films meet the minimum requirements, and in some cases passed when tested using double the required blast pressure. This type of testing only allows comparison of a system against a set standard. It does not acknowledge variations in specific applications such as windows, frames, walls, etc.

Note: It is important to point out that security film, with or without an anchoring system, cannot guarantee a low hazard level during a bomb blast. There are far too many mitigating circumstances that can reduce the level of protection – excessive blast force, large missile projectiles. Trident security film can increase the level of protection, not guarantee it.

Note: Johnson Window Films cannot warranty Trident films against all risk factors. Johnson Window Films will not be responsible for incidental or consequential damages resulting from the installation, use or misuse of Trident films. All Trident films have been tested and are ANSI Z97.1-1984 certified. Break strength, peel strength and puncture strength can vary from product to product. Trident films are made and intended for professional installation only.
